A new Lead Safe Ordinance, passed by the Cleveland City Council in 2019, requires the city’s rental property owners to obtain a lead-safe certification. The rollout of this ordinance began by geographic area last March and will continue through December of 2022. By January of 2023, all rental property owners in Cleveland need to be in compliance with the new rules. What rental properties are affected? Cleveland rental property owners with units built before 1978 must obtain a Lead Safe Certification.
